Dream job

If you've never been to Buckmore Park, go. Everything about it is top notch. It's like a small F1 circuit. A stylish club house with terrace overlooking the track, larger-than life electronic scoreboards, crash barriers that put some motorsport tracks to shame (there's not a used tyre in sight), a grandstand with views of the whole track, digi-flags everywhere, and a track that's probably the most challenging in the country, make Buckmore Park the ultimate destination for would-be Hamiltons and Bearmans (and until recently, Ollie Bearman was a member of the Medway Valley Kart Club based at Buckmore). And so, if you were looking for a job in the world of karting, your dream job would probably be at Buckmore.

So, congratulations to Kate Broadbent for picking up a dream work-experience job at Buckmore. She'll be working one day a week as a mechanic in the workshop. I dropped her off this morning for her first day, and if you think the track and facilities are good at Buckmore, wait until you see the workshop. I thought Costco infrastructure was impressive. Well, maybe they had something to do with the design of Buckmore's workshop. When we went into the workshop, one of the mechanics was driving a forklift truck around, lifting off karts from heavy-duty, multi-storey racking, getting them ready to go onto the track.

Kate's first job? Drive the karts into the pits. The smile on her face said it all. Is this really a job? Is doing all the things I like, really working? I'm sure she'll have to grab the coffees at some point, and I'm sure she'll end up cleaning the karts, but wearing the Buckmore uniform will make any task for her seem a joy.

So, thank you to Buckmore for giving Kate this opportunity. And I'm sure Kate will be making a mental note of all the fastest performing karts... She's racing in Round 8 of the Buckmore Sprint Series this very evening.
