5th in the World

Congratulations to Kate Broadbent for coming 5th in the Racing Women global competition.

In the regional heats, Kate was one of 10 women selected from the United Kingdom to go to Sweden for the finals.

25 women from around the globe made the finals in Sweden. On the first day, the competitors received instruction in ice driving, and seminars on the motorsport industry, health and fitness, and media skills.

On the second day the competitors were assessed on ice-driving car control, and timed doing laps around a circuit on a frozen lake.

Kate was one of 15 women selected to go through to a ‘shootout’, where the competitors were timed on a new circuit on another frozen lake.

Conditions for the ‘shootout’ on the final day were challenging. The temperature was above freezing, and the sun was shining, so the ice track was turning rapidly into a sludge track.

When the results were announced, Kate missed the 4th place (and a fully funded season racing Radicals) by just 0.06 seconds.

It was an amazing performance from Kate, and an amazing result – 5th in the world; 5th out of 150 competitors around the globe.
